The Influence of Chayote Soup and Celery Leaves on Blood Pressure Levels in Hypertensive Patients in East Kalabahi Village, Teluk Mutiara District, Alor Regency - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a problem that needs to be watched out for because it lacks specific signs and symptoms. Individuals with hypertension may still feel healthy and engage in normal activities, which is why hypertension is referred to as a silent killer.

Objective: To determine the influence of chayote soup and celery leaves on blood pressure levels in respondents with hypertension in the East Kalabahi Village, Teluk Mutiara District, Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

Method: This research is a quantitative study that involves experiments to investigate the effects of treatment. The research design used is a pre-experimental design (Nondesigns), specifically the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample for this study consists of 30 individuals selected through total sampling.

Results: The results of the paired-sample t-test for systolic blood pressure obtained t(29) = 9.798, p-value = 0.000 < α = 0.05. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test for diastolic blood pressure produced Zhitung = -3.694, p-value = 0.000 < α = 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.

Conclusion: There is an effect of chayote soup and celery leaf consumption on blood pressure levels in individuals with hypertension in the East Kalabahi Village, Teluk Mutiara District, Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
