Determinants of Waste Management Behavior among Traders at Wanaherang Market

Background: According to data from the National Waste Management Information System (Sistem Informasi Pengelolaan Sampah Nasional or SIPSN), achievements in 2020, comprising 290 regencies/cities throughout Indonesia, showed that waste generation reached 36,740,685.50 tons per year. The waste composition included household waste at 37.3%, office waste at 3.2%, traditional market waste at 16.4%, business center waste at 7.2%, public facility waste at 5.2%, area waste at 16%, and others at 14.6%.
Objective: To determine the relationship between education level, knowledge, attitude, and infrastructure with waste management behavior among traders in Pasar Wanaherang, Bogor City in 2021.
Method: The research is of a quantitative cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all traders in Pasar Wanaherang in 2021, totaling 160 people using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument for data collection was a questionnaire to gather respondent information. Bivariate data analysis used the Chi-Square test.
Results: Based on the Chi-Square statistical test, the results indicate a significant relationship between education (p-value = 0.01 ≤ 0.05); OR (95% CI = 2,508), knowledge (p-value = 0.000 ≤ 0.05); OR (95% CI = 7,091), attitude (p-value = 0.003 ≤ 0.05); OR (95% CI = 1,403), and infrastructure (p-value = 0.001 ≤ 0.05); OR (95% CI = 1,699) towards waste management behavior among traders in Pasar Wanaherang, Bogor City, in 2021.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between education level, knowledge, attitude, and infrastructure with waste management behavior among traders in Pasar Wanaherang, Bogor City, in 2021.
