Case Report of a Primigravida in the Second Trimester with Mild Anemia at Tongguh Community Health Center, Bangkalan Regency

Abstract

Primigravida women are more susceptible to anemia than multigravida due to limited knowledge of pregnancy care and physiological hemodilution. This case report aimed to describe midwifery care for a primigravida in the second trimester with mild anemia at Tongguh Community Health Center, Bangkalan Regency, Indonesia. A descriptive case-report design was used, with data collected through interview, physical examination, and documentation across three antenatal visits between January and May 2025, following informed consent from the patient. At the first visit, the mother had irregular iron and multiple micronutrient supplement (MMS) intake, irregular antenatal care, and a hemoglobin level of 10.2 g/dL. Care included nutrition education, structured guidance on correct iron and MMS consumption, provision of iron tablets, and adherence monitoring across visits. By the third visit, hemoglobin had increased to 11.4 g/dL, conjunctival pallor resolved, and fatigue subsided. Structured, visit-based education and compliance monitoring for iron and MMS supplementation were effective in resolving mild anemia in this case, supporting the integration of consistent adherence monitoring into routine antenatal care.
