Abstract

Background: Elderly hypertension means systolic blood pressure greater than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure greater than 90 mmHg measured three times a day in someone aged ≥65 years.

Objective: To determine the relationship between lifestyle, dietary patterns, and sleep quality in the elderly regarding hypertension control in the Parungpanjang Bogor Community Health Center Work Area in 2021.

Method: This is a descriptive analytical research with a cross-sectional design. The population consists of 123 individuals, and the sample size is 77 individuals selected through purposive sampling. Data collection is done through questionnaires, and testing is conducted using the Chi-Square Test.

Results: The research shows that the relationship between lifestyle variables and elderly hypertension control has a P-Value of 0.198 and an OR (Odds Ratio) of 0.47 (0.18-1.24). The relationship between dietary patterns and elderly hypertension control has a P-Value of 0.036 and an OR of 3.18 (1.18-8.54). The relationship between sleep quality and elderly hypertension control has a P-Value of 0.682 and an OR of 0.69 (0.24-1.98).

Conclusion: There is a relationship between dietary patterns and elderly hypertension control, while there is no relationship between lifestyle and sleep quality with the variable of elderly hypertension control.
